With the development of the city layout in our country, the burden of urban traffic system is more and more heavy. Progressing orbital traffic is a primary method to solve the traffic jam problem in big cities. Linear motor has been attract many attentions in orbital traffic application, for it has more advantages in drive. For instance, linear motor can generate pushing force directly, and it is independent of the adhesion.The transverse flux linear switched reluctance motor (TFLSRM) is a new-type linear motor, which has been researched resent years. It has the advantages of the linear motor, transverse flux motor and switched reluctance motor, and its flux is vertical to its motion direction, while its magnetic circuit is decoupled from electric circuit. The TFLSRM can be designed flexibly according to the demand, and has blocking character. Therefore, the linear motor vehicle made of TFLSRM is firm, credible, cheap and easy to maintenance, furthermore, it can exert the advantages of linear motor vehicle in urban orbital traffic.The study both in theory and in practice on TFLSRM commutation position detection technology is widely carried out in this dissertation, which based on specialty. The latest development of the switched reluctance motor (SRD) position detection technology at home and at abroad are well analyzed at the beginning of the dissertation, which made a documentation overview on direct detection and indirect detection technology. The structure and principle of TFLSRM have been introduced in detail, and the fatal shortcomings discovered in the experiments on the former photoelectricity sensor have been found out and systematically analyzed. On the basis of this, three kinds of commutation position detecting techniques are researched, emulated and experimented in detail: (a) constant current indirect position detecting technology; (b) position detecting technology based on salient poles; (c) sliding mode observer position detecting technology.TFLSRM control system has been established to experiment (b), which take the TMS320LF2407A DSP of TI as the master controller. A closed loop position digital control is utilized in the control system, so that the motor can complete four-quadrant operation and move advance and return. The experiment result proved the feasibility and effectively of (b). Emulation based on Matlab/Simulink have been taken for (a) and (c), which proved the feasibility and effectively. The theory foundation and experiment in advance have been provided for the TFLSRM's application in orbital traffic and other industry field, which based on the research of commutation position detection in this dissertation.
