The utilizing of post-buckling strength of plates in cold-formed thin- wall steel structure has been given in 《Technical code of cold-formed thin- wall steel structure GB50018-2002》 . 《Code for design of steel structures GB50017-2003.》 only considers it in webs of welded beam subjected to static loading and indirectly dynamical load. This paper research to ultimate bearing capacity of plates which make up weld structure and make engineering design to be economic and reasonable.In this paper a series of analysis about three kinds of different strength state and border condition were given .The residual stress is dealt with as the initial stress and material nonlinearities and geometry nonlinearities were considered . The result is compared with code GB50017,GB50018 and some literatures.It is shown that calculating the ultimate bearing capacity by finite element modeling is effectual. Finally, the critical buckling stress of formula for plates which considering geometrical defect and residual stress is proposed.
