Research On The Application Of USB In DSP-Based Excitation Controllers

The excitation control system is one of the most important control systems of a generator. It has great effect on the stability and the dynamic quality of the power systems. With the development of power systems, it requires higher control precision of the excitation control system. And the engineer requires the excitation control system to have a simpler interface. According to this requirement, this paper studies the application of USB in an excitation controller based on DSP.Firstly, this paper analyzes the control and communication technology of the excitation control system, and points out the excitation controller's requirement to DSP and USB. Secondly, as an essential work, this paper studies the USB2.0 protocol. Finally, and which is the central work, the paper gives a solution of the application of USB for an excitation controller based on DSP. It compares the solutions of USB interface, selects a fit one, and discusses the hardware solution, the firmware solution, the driver solution, and the software solution in PC. All the solutions are discussed in 3 chapters in this paper.This paper not only studies the design technologies of USB, but also gives a complete reach of USB interface for an excitation control system based on DSP. The technologies discussed in the paper may be also useful to other development of USB interface.
