According to the situations of the users' requirement and the case of progress in the network appliance technology, the research and design of Web-based fault diagnosis for appliances is carried on, which applies on home control network.The system includes offline fault diagnosis and online fault diagnosis. Expert System (ES) theory is applied to the offline part, the reasoning machine is achieved by fuzzy inference, the ES knowledge base is established based on the statistic and conclude of the experiences, and the fuzzy inference is drawn after the abstraction of the fault phenomenon from the users through the webpage as the man-machine interface. Finally, the inference output is optimized by identifying principle. The experiment result proves the high veracity of offline fault diagnosis. The online part applies the monitoring technology to the appliances having working process to collect the state data and establishes the fault diagnosis model dynamically. An appropriate membership degree function is selected to draw an inference, which rapidly identifies the fault and then gives the solution. Modeling the appliance working process dynamically for the fault diagnosis is considered as a difficulty and it is solved in the paper. The method of modeling has adaptability. The established model for the rice cooker satisfies the requirement of the online fault diagnosis, and the fault diagnosis model of top temperature of rice cooker is considerable precise. The emulation result indicates the efficiency and a high rate of successful fault diagnosis. Meanwhile, the manual knowledge base updating is supported, which can improve the effect of the fault diagnosis.B/S structure is adopted in the system. The offline fault diagnosis function, online monitoring function and knowledge base management function are carried out. The reasoning machine is realized by Asp technology, the knowledge base and appliance working data are stored in SQL Server 2000 according which the fuzzy inference can be drawn. The research and design of fault diagnosis give an exploration in remote monitoring application of the home control network.
