The arch bridge has some characteristics, such as high bearing capacity, moderate span, limit height of girder,economy and beautiful appearance. Arch bridge has centuries old history and strong competition. In the area especially, there are a lot of rivers and sea-routes, the excellence of arch bridges is salience and they are used extensively.The half-through tied arch bridge is one type of arch bridges. The characteristic of tied-arch bridge is a no-thrust arch structure by tensing the tied bar forming a self-balance system. This paper mainly studies the static and stability performance of the type of bridge. Reasonable measures and conclusions have been proposed. The main contents are as follows:1, The calculation model and the analysis principle for half-through arch bridges with the self-balance system using Finite Element Method are discussed. Through numerical analyses, the influence lines of internal force of the half-through arch bridge with the self-balance system are analyzed. Finally, the influence of the slope of arch ribs on the static characteristic is also investigated.2, The stability theory of half-through arch bridges with the self-balance system is discussed. On the base of that, the structural parametric study such as the slope of the arch rib and the rigid of wind bracing on the elastic buckling is also performed.3, The concept of ultimate bearing capacity of tied arch bridge is discussed. And the influence of the slope of arch rib and load distribution on the ultimate bearing capacity of half-through arch bridges with the self-balance system is also studied. Reasonable conclusions have been proposed.4, Taking a practical project as example, the Taicang Pond Large Bridge, a half-through arch bridge with the self-balance system, has been analyzed on static and stability performance after the bridge has been completed.
