The crashworthiness design of metro car-body becomes a new project with the development of urban traffic and the enhancement of traffic safety consciousness. The paper firstly summarizes the successful experiences of foreign countries in crashworthiness design during the past several years. The anti-crash design criterions of railway vehicles are explained in details. Secondly the finite element model of metro car-body was built up. According to a series of design criterions, the static and dynamic properties of metro car-boy were studied. Round tube is a kind of basic energy absorption element. Using the non-linear finite element method, the axial energy absorption performance of the tube was analyzed. And the characteristics of different kinds of energy absorption device were researched. At last, the collision performance of the cab was simulated. There were some improvements on the original design. It was demonstrated in this paper that the reliability of car crashworthiness could be tremendously increased by means of numerical simulation techniques and it was possible that the car-body impact performance could be evaluated and improved so as to provide more safety for passengers.
