Feature extraction is defined as extracting feature information with fixed engineering significance of a part from its CAD model automatically, it is also named as the name of feature recognition. Because it is important to realize effective integrative of CAD, CAPP and CAM, feature extraction has been an important research area when feature technology was presented. Feature inheritance and reconstruction technology is researched for reuse of former design feature, it also can be used in innovate design and variant design.Firstly, the fundamental of parametric technology and feature technology is discussed in detail, including the development and trend of parametric technology, geometric constraint solving, etc. Then the representative feature recognition methods are reviewed, especially, the feature recognition and feature description in UG is presented. After a particular analysis for microwave parts'feature, combined the method of parts database with UG, a microwave parts database is set up. In this system, many functions are implemented, such as automatic feature recognition, adding template part and parametric design, etc. At last, feature inheritance and reconstruction technology is introduced and a new classify of feature for feature inheritance is presented with the coupling of object-oriented technology and feature technology. After having a research of arithmetic for feature inheritance and reconstruction, a realization of some classes'feature inheritance and reconstruction based on that arithmetic is made with the functions of UG/OPEN API.
