The new DSPM motor drive system is a competitive candidate in variable-speed operation drive with high performance, attracting more and more attentions. In this paper, a new vector control strategy is proposed and implemented on an 8/6-pole, skewed-rotor DSPM motor. Then, the DSPM motor operates smoothly with small torque ripple and wider speed-range. At the same time, the switch-frequency is fixed by software.Compared with permanent magnet synchronous motor (PMSM), according to the structure and static characteristics of DSPM motor, the permanent magnets inset in the stator is supposed to locate in the rotor. In this way, the DSPM motor has the same structure and static characteristics as those of PMSM. Then, the mathematic model of DSPM motor is deduced. It is found that the performance of DSPM motor is directly affected by the phase current, so the control strategy focuses on the current control and its influences. In order to widen the operating speed, flux-weakening control is adopted. A DSPM motor vector control system has been designed based on 80C196KC. In addition, AD9854 which can output two sinusoidal signals with variable frequency, phase and amplitude is used in the motor control field for the first time.In the end, the proposed DSPM motor vector control theory has been validated by both simulation and experiment results.
