In the water treatment project practice in domestic and abroad, as a water filter medium, traditional quartz sand has the disadvantage like short period and bigger hydraulic pressure loss etc. The compositive benefit index is low. To aim at this disadvantage of quartz sand, we propose a new filter medium——ceramics filter.The ceramics filter has been used in water treatment more and more because its good physical mechanical capability. The ceramics filter was mainly used in the treatment of sewage and waste water at present. However the research to use the ceramics filter in the drinking water treatment is still in the initial stage. Therefore, to research the application of ceramics filter in the water supply treatment has great academic and realistic significance. This article, on the base of analysis of reviewing systematically the development of filtration and media filter, make a relative system experiment research and theory analysis for the performance of filtration by ceramics filter.The experiment use the ceramics filter which the Shandong aluminum business company provided, we make a small experiment in the filter pole model in Wuhan White Crane Mouth water supply plant, than we make a middling experiment in the filter tank model. Firstly, we compared the filter capability of ceramics filter and quartz sand filter under the equal filter condition. The conclusion indicated that, to compare with the quartz sand filter, the ceramics filter has the advantages of longer filter period,smaller hydraulic pressure loss,higher turbidity remove rate,more equally impurity interception,less water consume in counter washing. Secondly, we make a cross experiment under the changed percolation speed, the changed filter layer thickness,the changed filter diameter. We finally found, when the percolation speed is 6m/h, the filter layer thickness is 80cm, the d10 is 0.83mm, the compositive capability is best. Lastly, in the filter tank model, we limited the maximal filter period,peg the counter washing intension and time, make the middling experiment under the filter parameter of the water supply plant, and than compared the filter effect with the water supply plant.
