As one of the successful measures of shifting on-peak loads to off-peak periods and strategies of electricity load management, the ice thermal storage has been widely used in different countries of the world. It is an urgent task to develop and spread new ice thermal storage products under the continuingly increasing electricity peak load. So an important agreement was signed between a company and us from Yantai to develop novel vertical capsulated plate ice storage equipment. And this thesis is supported by this fund.The research works in this paper focus mainly on the following aspects:1. Works have been done to investigate and analysis the current thermal storage products. By the analysis and comparison between different products, several ideas of new products have been put forward. Analyses on the feasibility of these new products have been progressed.2. By comparison between different schemes, the vertical capsulated plate ice storage equipment was deemed to be the best one. Some improvements on the current plate capsulated ice storage equipments have been conducted to improve their characteristics. Although the existing capsulated plate ice storage equipments have different sizes, they are horizontally placed one by one. In the horizontal plate, the air will be on the top. It deteriorates heat transfer in the course of icing because the heat resistance of air is lager than that of water. While in the vertical plate, the heat area of top air is smaller that that in the horizontal one. The heat resistantce is reduced. The coolant flows unorganized through the tank holding the containers. The coolant can be short-circuited and the utilization of the spaces can be lowered. On the other hand, the coolant is easier to deposit results from its low speed. Therefore, we decided that the capsulated plate ice storage equipments are placed vertically in the tank with the separators between them to make several flow paths.3. Based on the characteristic analysis of the capsulated plate ice storage equipment, reasonable simplification has been done. And according to the thermal equilibrium principle, the mathematical model of the new capsulated plate ice storage equipment has been set up. It can be used to calculate water inside submerged plastic freezes and thaws parameters. The model can be experimental validated and used to improve the capsulated plate ice storage equipment.
