The construction of city expressway system is the effective measure for catabatic the urban transportation pressure, but so far, it is still lacked of the systemic and authoritative plan theory and the method to the expressway's research, and there are many places to be worth discussing and improving.The paper was precisely to do some research on the expressway theory and method, mainly included: Discussed on structure of the expressway system which is mainly annular-radial; Applied Traffic Locatapn Theory to supervise the line layout of expressway; Applied Fractal Theory on the research of urban expressway,measured Beijing and Jinan's expressway network radius fractal dimension, and concluded the calculational formula of radius fractal dimension of the Utopian annular-radial road network; Discussed the significance of the radius fractal dimension on the expressway system plan,and so on.In one word, the paper discussed the expressway planning theories and methods in certain places, and hoped that it is significant to the city expressway system construction.
