The finite difference methods and the finite element methods are usually used to solve the coupled water and heat model of soil in cold regions, as a result of its form the numerical precision is lower. The spectral methods have high accuracy so called the convergence of "infinite order' so the article suggests the spectral methods for solving the coupled water and heat model of soil in cold regions. The general process of solution to the heat conductivity equation is carried out in details by applying the spectral element method in spatial domain and R-K methods in the time domain. Meanwhile, related mass matrix and rigidity matrix are given for working out spectral element program. The spectral methods indicate by analysis and comparison many merits in high precision and fits boundary well. Finally the article returns the focus-the spectral element for solving the coupled water and heat model of soil in cold regions and gets a satisfying numerical value.
