Deck cargo shifting, damage of deck equipments and superstructures will probably be caused by the huge impact forces due to the severe green water incidents. Cases of bow damage and superstructures destroy of FPSO caused by server green water incidents were reported frequently in recent years. As a devastating environmental load, the green water incident has aroused attentions of maritime engineers for long time, and now the green water problem has become a hot research topic in ship and ocean engineering.Green water is one of the strongly nonlinear ship-wave interaction problems which is difficult to be solved mathematically. The physical phenomena of the occurrence of green water is very complicated. The past investigations only can describe the phenomena at some extend, and it cannot give a reasonable explanation for the mechanism of green water.A comprehensive review about the investigations and recent research progress of green water is conducted in the present paper. A numerical method to simulate the phenomenon of green water on deck is established by taking advantage of the virtues of the potential flow method and CFD technique. The present method can be applied to predict and analyze the impact forces on floating structures due to green water. The main...
