As one important components of relay protection, reclosure plays a vital role in guaranteeing security, stability and economical running. This paper is devoted to analyze the effect of trip-reclosure time on power system stability.Beginning with the influence of the operation time on power system stability, the theoretical analysis of the optimal trip and reclosure has been discussed in this paper. Then the mathematical model is established for analysis of the influence of trip-reclosure time on power system transient stability. The influencing mechanism during the whole trip-reclosure process on the stability of power system has been unveiled. And the set mathematical model is applied to analyze the stability of power system during the whole trip-reclosure process. Last, the optimal trip-reclosure time setting scheme is proposed. The calculated results proved that this method is correct, effective, simple, and rapid.Based on the analysis of the present reclosure achievements, the study of reclosure is enlarged to the whole trip-reclosure process in this paper. Then the technology of distinguishing transient faults from permanent faults, the theory of optimal time, and the adaptive sequential reclosure strategy are all considered during the whole trip-reclosure process. In succession, the optimal trip-reclosure strategy is proposed in this paper. The calculation results show that the optimal trip-reclosure strategy can avoid severe impact to the system, improve the stability of power system, and strengthen the connection between systems. And the operations on the optimal trip-reclosure time promote the transmission capacity and the transient stability limit of power system to a great extent.
