Adaptive wing can change its shape according to the mission in flying to improve the quality of the plane which has better application in plane industry. Shape changing compliant mechanisms can achieve continuous shape changing which fits the requirement of adaptive wing. The purposes of this dissertation are using shape changing compliant mechanisms to design adaptive wing and studying the basic theories of topology optimization. The main work of this dissertation is as following:Firstly, the in-country and overseas status of adaptive wing and compliant mechanisms were systemically studied, based on which the design method of our own was presented.Secondly, the species, characters of density interpolation models, the definitions, causations of the numerical problems and the methods to eliminate them, the optimization criterion method (OC) and method of moving asymptotes (MMA) were studied systemically.Topology optimization method of continuum material structure was studied systematically. The species and characters of density interpolation models were presented and the influence of each parameter was studied too. The definitions of the numerical problems and its causations and some methods to eliminate them especially filtering technique were studied. The species of common numerical methods were studied during which optimization criterion method (OC) and method of moving asymptotes (MMA) were studied systemically. The range of the penalization power and filter radius were studied by a two support girder structure in MATLAB and the performances of OC and MMA were studied too, which presented a further theory for designing shape changing compliant mechanisms.The key techniques of compliant mechanisms topology optimization such as foundation of the model, sensitivity analysis, were studied. The influences of the spring coefficient and material dosage were studied by force inverted and clamp compliant mechanisms which proved the possibility of the theory.At the last part of the dissertation, with the departure between deformed and target shape as the target the topology optimization model was founded and the compliant mechanisms was optimized in MATLAB.
