With economic development, the rock material is widely applied in the railway and in the water conservation, the railway, the civil construction and so on, a lot of problem about rocks urgently is demanded to solve, so there are very important theory and realistic meanings to thoroughly research its nature, concerning and destroying mechanism. The pre-existing flaws in rock mass have influenced the nature of rock mass and changed the deform modulus, the strength and so on. The changing of these macroscope parameters is closely relative to the propagation and coalescence process of the pre-existing flaws.Based on the systematic physics experiments of research team, this paper discusses on the failure mode, strength and deformed property of intermittent jointed rock mass through thoroughly numerical research and explain the failure reason in the microcosmic view of stress field, and some significate conclusions have been made. The main research progressive are:1,the failure progress of specimen is rather complex, and thus it is difficult to simulate it by finite element numerical method. In this paper, damaged plasticity model has been used to simulate the failure progress, and verified through the deformed field and the ultimate strength with the physical experiment, and a very good result has been gotten.2,Aimed at specimen with two co-planar flaws, this paper analyses different factors and gets the laws of failure mode, strength with each factor.3,Aimed at specimen with two echelon flaws, this paper analyses different factors and gets the laws of failure mode, strength with each factor.4,Compared the differences in failure mode between specimen with multiple flaws and that with two flaws, analyse the laws of ultimate strength with the flaw orientation, the distance between each two rows, thenumber of rows of pre-exsiting flaws.
