With the development of modernization, underground structures are arising one after another almost every day in our country. To satisfy the comprehensive requirement in building structure and function, fire safety problems in super-code and anti-code buildings become more worse. As to the special building structure and comprehensive function requirement especially that of the typically high occupant density, it is extremely a difficult problem to evacuate all the occupant to safety refuge space outside the building. Study on human evacuation behavior in building fire can help to realize prediction evaluation on the safety evacuation performance in buildings. The research project has important theoretical and value in performance based fire prevention design and realistic meaning in the serious fire prevent safety situation in our country.In the whole, the quantitative methods on human evacuation in fire can be classified into two categories :one is getting data by observation and experiment , the other is using computer simulation model . The former is basic research . Fire engineers and building designers in western countries, such as Japan, America, Europe and Australian, do lots of case observation, fire case surveys. On the basis of these study, they got a lot of data on evacuation and found equations on the width of exit. In our country, a lot of work need to be done in this field. Our research is carried out in Shang Hai Xu Jia-hui underground shopping mall.There are five chapters in the thesis. Chapter one explains the cause of subject selection, concept definition and research methods. Chapter two introduce the research background in and abroad. Chapter three introduce the investigation in Shang Hai Xu Jia-hui underground shopping mall made by 54 graduated students of Tong Ji CAUP. Base on thesefirst-handed data , we summarized some rules of human behavior .In addition , the dynamical equation of evacuation speed has been founded and the relationship between the speed and the crowd density has also been derived. Chapter four apply the conclusion of chapter three to calculate the egress time, and use the software named Airpark to calculate the time when the smoke threat the occupants' life. Chapter five is the sum-up of the whole thesis.In addition, we point out that the study of human behavior in fire is a very important issue that to be study further in the future.
