This paper introduced the steel bar cutter's state-of-the-art both domestic and abroad, the research work was based on the programe of the vested hydraulic system of the steel bar cutter, and then proceeded the optimum design for it. The improved system not only has simple structure, prompt response, also has reduced the power loss and noise of the system, the attack to the hydraulic shear cylinder bottom was reduced, and the operating life was increased. It has reached the aims for the design.The principle of the hydraulic shear system, the change of the shear force in the steel bar cutting-off process, and the structure and action principle of the buffer of the cylinder were analyzed at first in the paper. Then, it researched for selecting the hydraulic system's parameters, these were sufficiently prepared for the design of the test prototype for experiment.This paper has created the mathematical model of the hydraulic system of the steel bar cutter, considered the hydraulic power unit, accumulator and hydraulic pipe, specially the dynamic characteristics of the hydraulic cylinder buffer structure. Based on the simulation platform of MATLAB/Simulink, the simulation models of the cylinder's stroke and return range in shear system were established. The results of simulations indicated, the system has reached the aims of design. And these also supplied the foundation for the experiment research.Used dSPACE software and hardware integration system to control real time and on-line and collect data, the response curves of the position of shear cylinder in different system work pressure were get. The experiment results indicated, the results of the position of the cylinder in the high-speed steel bar cutter and the results get by simulation were same, that approved themathematical model was correct and the model machine could put into operation.
