The most common difficulties for the construction of deep bridge foundation are waterproofing, earth standing, even anti-corrosion and land sliding etc. The purpose to construct a cofferdam is to prevent the water and soil outside the cofferdam to rush into the cofferdam during cofferdam construction and foundation construction. The cofferdam shall be dismantled after the foundation, abutment and pier being constructed above the water level in order not to block the waterway and the stream. Double wall steel cofferdam is one of widely used waterproofing cofferdam for the construction of deep bridge foundation.This thesis focuses on the narration of two kinds of most commonly used construction technology for double wall steel cofferdam i. e. constructed with cable conveyor lifting transfer and with pontoon transfer. This thesis summarizes the technology for the two typical double wall steel cofferdams and compares their applicability and technical advantages, so that favorable construction method could be selected for the construction of cofferdam according to the site conditions in the future.This thesis elaborates the function mechanism of the cofferdam as a water separation structure for deep bridge foundation construction. Moreover, the thesis analyzes and studies theoretically the safety and stability of double wall steel cofferdam in order to provide scientific and technical support for the utilization and popularization of this construction technology, to minimize safety accidents and engineering accidents, and tries to recommend a new, safe and reliable choice for deep bridge foundation construction. This thesis also expounds the utilization, development and main technical achievements of double wall steel cofferdam at home and abroad, narrates the utilization prospect in our country and critical technical problems to be settled urgently. Particularly, it introduces the utilization status of another type of most commonly used double wall steel cofferdam abroad—steel sheet pile double wall cofferdam.Further, by summarizing the two kinds of construction technology for double wall steel cofferdam i. e. constructed with cable conveyor lifting and with pontoon transfer, and enumerating a few successful precedents, this thesis probes into the technical development tendency of double wall steel cofferdam, stimulates people to make further efforts for technical innovation and creates more and advanced technology during their practice to expedite technical development of double wall steel cofferdam.
