Physical model test is widely used in hydraulic structure design, its conclusions are reliable, it is the final confirmation of the design. But physical model test need a mount of time, manpower, physical resources and money, and must be limited by similar ratio, also its results mostly be revised before applying. Numerical model test which save amount of time and investment with plenty of results, also be without the limitation of the similar ratio normally, develops quickly at present. But numerical model test is deeply affected by many factors, for example turbulence models and boundary conditions.A numerical model test method on spillway is proposed here, its feasibility and reliability are confirmed by contrasting the numerical model test results to the physical model test results on the Longtouqiao spillway in Heilongjiang province, these results include discharge capacity, water surface line, pressure on weir surface and speed distribution, etc. A quite serious water crown and a deflected stream are appeared in both numerical model test results and physical model test results, and most of the numerical water surface lines and the physical water surface lines are tallies good. An analysis optimized design is: reduce the mid-pier thick 0.5 meters with optimized tail-pier shape. The numerical model test has been carried on the optimized design, and shows that the optimized design can reduce the water crown and the deflected stream efficiently, and the physical model test on optimized design has been carried on later, and draws the same conclusion. Through the two type test results contrast, the proposed method on spillway has been confirmed feasible and reliable again.Through the optimized and original design test results comparison, we obtained the relationship of position of water crown, the height of water crown, with the discharge, the thick of mid-pier, the shape of tail-pier, which be provided to the spillway optimization designer.
