Ethanol is a reproducible clean fuel. It has an important meaning to study the application of ethanol in diesel engines as a substituted fuel for our national energy sources, environmental protection, agriculture and so on.It was studied the adaptability of ethanol applied in diesel engine. It was studied the dissolving of ethanol and diesel, and developed one kind of ethanol-diesel blend fuel additive. It was studied the effect of ethanol-diesel blend ratio on engine power, fuel economy and emission characteristics, and it was selected an appropriate range of ethanol and diesel ratio. In order to increase the power of the ethanol diesel fuel engine, this paper studied the effect of fuel supply system parameters on ethanol diesel blend fuel engine performance. And this paper also studied the effect of catalysis purification technology on the ethanol diesel blend fuel engine to restrain the increase of HC, CO emission comparing with diesel engine. Finally, the paper studied EGR technology to decrease NOx emission, and designed the EGR valve.It was studied the dissolvability and stability of ethanol and diesel blend fuel. It was studied the physical and chemistry characteristics of the ethanol-diesel blended fuel, and an additive was developed for ethanol-diesel blended fuel. Experiment results showed that when 6%of the additive was added in the blend fuel, the blend fuel could remain tranquilization for more than 3 months.It was tested the performance of the blended fuel engine, the ratio of ethanol is 10%, 15%, 20%, on DL190-12 diesel engine. The results show that there were both up and down for engine power & torque, the variation degree was less than 8%, and the fuel consumption was increased comparing with the original diesel without change of engine basic structure. When using the blended fuel, both PM and NOx emission of the engine could be obviously reduced about 30%, HC and CO emission of the engine could be increased about 40%. It was concluded that 15% is the best blend ratio of ethanol for DL190-12 engine by fuzzy comprehensive appraisal method.It was also studied the effect of fuel injection pressure & fuel supply advance angle on characteristics of ethanol-diesel blend engine. The results showed that the engine power and the fuel consumption increased, the exhaust smoke emission decreased largely, NOx emission was changed a little with increase of fuel injection pressure. And HC and CO emission increased with the increase of fuel injection pressure, but the increasing effect was weakened with the engine speed increased. When fuel supply advance angle increased, the engine power did not change , the fuel consumption decreased firstly, and then increased , NOx was increased, exhaust smoke emission decreased, and HC and CO emission increased firstly, and then decreased.This paper studied catalytic purification technology to reduce the HC and CO emission for ethanol-diesel blend engine. The results showed that reduction of CO could be up to 40%, HC could be up to 35% with Ecocatt 84441# oxidation catalyst produced by KEMIRA Company. When the mean effective pressure increases, the catalytic efficiency increases firstly and decreases afterwards.It was designed the main hole diamenter and lift of EGR valve which is the key part of EGR system. Applying BOOST procedure software of AVL Company, it was set up EGR systematic model for DL190-12 engine, simulated the work progress of EGR system, and calculated EGR flow and EGR rate by computer. It was tested the performance of the EGR system equipped on ethanol diesel blend fuel engine DL190-12 by engine experiment. Results showed NOx emission was reduced by more than 20% with the EGR system, And total of 50%- 90% NOx emission could be reduced by ethanol diesel blend fuel engine equipped with EGR developed by the study, comparing with the original diesel engine DL190-12.
