Surface plasmon resonance (SPR) is an advanced biochemical analyticaltechnology which is rapidly developing in recent years. It can be used for label-free,high sensitive, real-time detection and has been widely used in biochemistry. Instituteof Electronics, Chinese Academy of Sciences has successfully developed a series ofSPR biochemical analysis instruments and miniaturization is one of its trends. Thispaper describes the theory of SPR sensing technology and the development andexperimental application of two kinds of portable SPR analyzer. In this paper, the two instruments are designed in similar structure, includingdrive-flow system, SPR sensor system and control processing system. The drive-flowsystem realizes automatic detection of two kinds of samples. The optical structure ofthe SPR sensor is fixed to reduce the volume of the system. The control processingsystem which differs a lot on the two instruments affects the accuracy and sensitivityof the system. The instrument which is based on USB chip improves the original portable SPRanalyzer, using EZ-USB FX2 family chip with CPLD, RAM and high-speed AD. Thedata transmitting speed and the stability of the system has been increased, and thesensitivity of the instrument will reach 1×10-6 RIU by predicting. The instrument with high-speed DSP control chip TMS320LF2407A to processdata, liquid crystal display and keyboard control can meet the need of environmentalmonitoring outdoors. This paper introduces the experimental application of the DSPbased portable SPR analyzer. The results indicate that the instrument can detect the SPR phenomenon of water obviously and also can distinguish glycerin agent withdifferent refractive index. This paper also develops the PC software with friendly interface to each of theportable SPR analyzer. The sensitivity and the accuracy of the instruments will bemeasured in further experiments.
