With the development of power electronics technology,many kinds of largepower capacity switching components are widely used,they lead to the seriousreactive power and harmonic current pollution in the power system. In this paper,Investigation of a STATCOM model, in which the reactive current and harmonic canbe compensated dynamically and the quality of the power can be improved, isperformed based on the instantaneous power theory.Based on the instantaneous power theory which was used to detect reactivepower and harmonic current. The simulation model of MATLAB is established byusing the direct control of the current and lag ring current track PWM modulationmethod. Compared with the conventional reactive compensator, the simulation resultsshow that STATCOM can be faster and more effective to compensate the reactivepower and suppress the harmonic current, and the simulation results show that themodel is correct and the method is feasible and practicable.Finally, by combining the advantages of the passive and active compensationequipments, a hybrid compensation model is proposed, by which the installationcapacity of active power part can be reduced and the quality- price-ratio can beimproved further. Simulation results show that the equipments are feasible.
