The research on steel column joints has been conducted relatively early in foreign countries, but the experimental research and theoretical analysis of its kind is comparatively late. The common applied nodes of square steel column to H-beam are stiffening rings and inner diaphragms. This thesis puts forward several other joints to square steel column to H-beam: square stiffener joint, T-stiffener joint and strengthening bolt joint. Based on the data of experimental model, the thesis testifies to the application the three kinds of joints.The author makes elasto-plasticity nonlinear analysis of the three kinds of joints with the software of ANSYS in a systematical way, investigating the ultimate strength and failure modes under monotonic load-increasing, researching on the mechanical behavior of the three kinds of joints. The research revealed that the T-stiffener joint has the largest ultimate strength, the second is strengthening bolt joint and the third is square stiffener joint in terms of ultimate strength. Square stiffener joint needs higher strength and rigidity of steel column than the other two kinds. So the square stiffener joint is not economical in terms of application. T-stiffener joint needs more welding and appropriate construction conditions, while the strengthening bolt joint is convenient for application. Its bearing force is less than T-stiffener joint.In order to investigate the mechanical behavior and influence of parameters on steel column joints, the research is focused on T- stiffener joint and strengthening bolt joint, analyzing the hysteretic behavior of nodes under influence of recycle load-increasing. On the basis of which the author does deep research on geometrical parameters of the three joints. The result proves that the T- stiffener joint and strengthening bolt joint has good quality in bearing force and hysteretic behavior which can meet the needs of construction projects. The thesis also enriches the research on the steel column joints.
