Ruins of Jiaohe is situated at Yarnaiz Groove village which is ten kilometers to the west of Turpan of Sinkiang Uigur autonomous region. Ruins of Jiaohe is an earthen site cultural relic preserved in best condition in China at present as well as a typical representation of earthen site at home and abroad. Although, there are plenty of studies about Ruins of Jiaohe presently, but studies on cliff mass from the perspective of geo-technique engineering are few. Therefore, the writing of this paper is of reference value to the preservation of Ruins of Jiaohe.This thesis has studied the special kind of high slope earthen site noumenon mainly from the angle of engineering geology. By using a range of relative theories and methods(for instance, foundation rock and soil science, slipping engineering, soil mechanics, engineering topography, mathematics and so on),this article, based on the foundation of reinforcing and preserving the mesa cliff mass , has analyzed the preservative condition , lodging environment , terrene type and engineering characteristic of Ruins of Jiaohe mess overally and detailed and generalized the test results . Furthermore, by comparison with all kinds of properties of typical loess of middle reaches of Yellow River, this article has come to the conclusion that the intensity of Jiaohe cliff mass soil is higher than that of typical loess obviously.This article considers that the structural plane of Jiaohe cliff mass mainly manifests relief joint of strike direction of an angle of three hundred and twenty degrees and manifests joint complete with two groups of advantageous strike direction, namely, strike direction of an angle of twenty-five degrees and strike direction of an angle of three hundred and twenty degrees, with obliquity nearing perpendicularity. Moreover, this article considers that the dilapidation manners of Jiaohe cliff mass mostly are of four kinds, that is fault, rip, collapse and slippage. According to these four kinds of main dilapidation manners, this paper has counted the coefficient of stability of seventy-one separate massif of cliff mass using the theory of margin breakage, then set up a model of Finite Element Method of separate massif, attempting to count the destruction face and coefficient of stability of cliff mass, and the result is close to the theory of margin breakage.This article has analyzed the stability of cliff mass of Ruins of Jiaohe and the distributing character and influent factor of separate massif, and deems that the destruction manner of cliff mass mostly is dilapidation destruction. The whole stability of earth mass is inferior owing to the nature of itself and the effect of exterior factor, for instance, climate, landform and physiognomy, earthquake, current etc. At last, This article has discussed the destruction mechanism of cliff mass of Ruins of Jiaohe , and considers that the reason of the dilapidation and destruction is the cliff mass rear, stress release and a great deal of relief joint come into being . Meanwhile , in view of two groups joint of different strike direction , cliff mass cut laterally , the mesa has formed the physiognomy characteristic of verge fragmentation of cliff mass inclining to dilapidate . And because of the stratum of cliff mass tilting to the south slightly, with a grade of three percepts, the moment of collapse of cliff mass increased.
