Along with the rapid development of the world economy and trading, the container transportation becomes the important channel in the modern carrying trade. As the sites of the container transportation, the mechanization degree of the ports must be improved very rapidly in order to adapt with the modern requirements. The working capabilities of the machine productions are higher than before.As one of the special mechanism for load and unload, convey and stack in the container yards, The Rubber Tiger Girder Crane (RTG) has some advantages such as utilize the stock place more efficiency, the fee of the construction is lower, mobile and flexible, can be used more commonly, it has been comprehensive used in most of the world ports.It is very important to keep stability in the design of the steel structure. And there are corresponding criterions in different countries to stipulate the steel structure stability requirements. It is obviously very necessary to abide these requirements in order to avoid buckling happens in them. But it is not enough if we only deal with those structures according to the criterions. One side it needs all of the steel structure designers lucubrate and understand them and familiar with all kinds of the influence factors for the stability properties of steel structure. Further more, there must be some initial disfigurements in the actual steel structures for the some reasons such as manufacture, transportation and installation. And will be some imperfectly straight, initial bending and some eccentric and residual stress happens for the loading points of the pressures is not centric. Almost all of the buckling is limit point and have strong nonlinear, it will be very complicated to calculate, and it will not easy to get the right results.The buckling of steel structure includes local and overall buckling. It will starts from mature buckling theories of the sheet steel and be detail described in this paper. Explain the main steel structure and leg structure, loading of the RTG. Utilize Eigenvalue and nonlinear Buckling Analysis in ANSYS software to analyze some typical structure such as Angle with compress loading, compressed sheet steel no stiffness with constraints of support on four edges, compressed sheet steel with transverse and longitudinal stiffness and support on four edges, And compare with the theoretic results. Then do some Eigenvalue and nonlinear Buckling Analysis for the continuous modified box section of the leg, get the maximum buckling load and mode for it. The conclusions of this kind of section will buckling from local to overall under the continuous increased pressure and the influence trend of the initial disfigurements and so on will be got. They will be reference for the doing research and design of the leg of RTG and the others box engineering structure.
