With the rapid development of the bridge construction projects, many new bridge types have been produced. The short-pylon cable-stayed bridge(partially cable-stayed bridge) has been considered as a new type of structure in recent 20 years. Presently, there are more than 50 short-pylon cable-stayed bridges in the world. The short-pylon cable-stayed bridge has been widely applied in many areas of the world because of the excellences of beautiful sculpt, harmonious landscape, advanced technology, low-cost, construction convenience etc.Although the short-pylon cable-stayed bridges have developed quickly, and the experience of the design and construction has accumulated, the short-pylon bridges are being in the gradual knowed stage. Its conformation characteristics, mechanical behaviour, similarities and differences between the continuious rigid frame (continuous girder) bridges and the cable-stayed bridges have not been completely understood.In this paper, The conformation characteristics of the cables, pylons, structure system, span arrangement and cross section style, parametric selection of the girder are discussed in detail through the comparison between the short-pylon cable-stayed bridges, the continuious rigid frame bridges and the cable-stayed bridges based on The Sanmenjiang Bridge and the research results of former scholars. And, the parameter selecting principle of structure design is analysed. The static and dynamic characteristics of three bridge styles are analysed based on the finite element theory. The similarities and differences of three bridge styles in mechanical performance, the applicability of the short-pylon cable-stayed bridges are researched in virtue of the internal force envelope curve of the beams and cables, the contribution-coefficient of cable tension, the natural frequency and vibration models of the entire bridge.The construction control is important in the bridge construction. With the increasing span, the diversifying styles of structures and the rapid development of construction methods, its function is gradually stressed. In this paper, the schemes, methods, analysis and achievement of The Sanmenjin Bridge construction control are introduced in detail.
