A chemical weapon has extremely doughty execution and frightening power to deter, so it may realize dual Strike on physiology and psychology in war. For the need of future war and national defence project, the primary design and research on the key technology of subminiature chemistry war agent detecting device which based on High Field Asymmetric Waveform Ion Mobility Spectrometry(FAIMS) is introduced in this paper.Based on the analyzing of the developing history of the detecting device which based on FAIMS in western countries, we try our best to adopt ripe technology and project in all parts of the subminiature chemistry war agent detector, the prototype of which has been completed. Aiming at the fixed target, dielectric barrier discharges is selected as ion source for the prototype after all kinds of ionization methods are contrasted each other. The discharge modes and ionization mechanism in dielectric barrier discharges are all analysed, and a new method to evaluate ionization efficiency of ion source is introduced. Influence of carriage gas's flux on the ionization efficiency in dielectric barrier discharges ion source is researched. Research findings show that the ionization efficiency can be improved by impedance matching. Otherwise, many electrodes in dielectric barrier discharges are designed and manufactured, the best one is selected among them by experiment. The FAIMS theory is analysed deeply, such as the relationship between the most swing of asymmetric waveform and scan voltage, the plane FAIMS electrodes are designed and manufactured with the direction of above theory. A simple FAIMS detector is composed of dielectric barrier discharges ion source and plane FAIMS electrodes. The FAIMS theory will be validated at the stage of experiment, the object of this experiment is the mixtures gases of ethanol and acetone in nitrogen. The experiment result show that the technology of FAIMS is feasible. At the same time, the linear relation between the most swing of asymmetric waveform and scan voltage is validated.
