The Research On The Urban Entrance Image

Urban entrance which exists as a space boundary and strategic communication hubs of a city, and its suburban area is the urban space unit for the human activities to transfer and exchange the public, material and information. As a kind of the civic public spaces image, the urban entrance which belongs to the urban spatial image mainly consists of the spatial area, the constitution elements, the composing structure, the extrinsic image, etc. The study on the urban entrance image becoming an emerging research topic is the inevitable product of the social development.From the point view of the universal connection, in this paper various research methods were applied to deeply investigate the scientific foundation of the studies on the urban entrance image, and the correlation of essential factors and their interactions were discussed how to build the theoretical framework of the urban entrance image. Furthermore, the extent and depth of this theoretical framework was extended through the practical application studies to seek the research approach which can be commonly used for reference in the investigating of the urban entrance image.This paper is organized as the logical sequence: question-posing, question-parsing, question-resolving, and practice-guiding.The question was posed in Chapterâ… . To construct the basic framework of this study, we described the research aims, research objectives, methodology, logical structure, key issues and originality of this study. Meanwhile, the history of development and the study of present situation on the urban entrance image both in home and abroad were reviewed and reflected.Chapterâ…¡parsed and analyzed the question. The urban entrance image which is a complex of the multidiscipline elements, and it is an important part of the urban image. From the perspectives of multidiscipline including the environmental psychology, culture, city planning, landscape science etc. The theoretical foundations of the urban entrance image were systemic analyzed.Chapterâ…¢focused on the theoretical resolution. From the basic definitions of the urban entrance image, there are three theoretic fulcrums were derived: the sign of boundary, specific area and unit of space. It is going step further to lead to the concepts of the dual structure, main characters and research principles, so as to construct the theoretic framework for this study.Chapterâ…£focused on the practical resolution. All the essence and life-force of the academic research is the creativity. In order to instruct the practice of the urban entrance image design well, we sought the conceptual and methodological innovations for the designing process and established the indicator system for optimization of the design goals within the above theoretical framework based on the view point of creativity.In Chapterâ…¤, a practical instance was carefully analyzed from the microcosmic view to discuss the common process and methodology of the urban entrance design and provide the feasible blue print. Concretely, the design of the Hedong Avenue in Xiangtan, as an example for the practical investigation of the urban entrance image design for the city of Xiangtan, was carried out by employing the theoretical research principles and the proposed design methodologies in this paper.It is expected that the results of this study consummate the theoretical system of the urban entrance image as well as give some reference for the construction of the urban entrance image in China.
