The flight dynamics model for a small-scale unmanned helicopter was developed in this paper using system identification. First of all, a parameterized model is derived from a six degree of freedom rigid-body structure, using first principle method based on mechanics and aerodynamics. Then a parameterized longitudinal and lateral model was developed respectively without coupling. And on the basis of flight data from Yamaha R-50, these unknown parameters in the models mentioned above were identified with Least Square, Maximum Likelihood, Genetic Algorithms. After that ,a final longitudinal and lateral model was established. In the last, a comparison between responses computed from the flight data and those derived from the identified model was given, and results show a good match between model prediction and flight data, and Genetic Algorithms has the best match among them.
