To realize the self-power of the SJA, this paper presents a Bi-Te based thermoelectric material to construct the thermoelectric generator (TEG) to absorb and utilize the heat and decrease the surface temperature of the aircraft. This paper focuses on the thermoelectric converting characteristic of Bi-Te based thermoelectric module. The aim is providing an experimental base for TEG design. A PC based measurement and temperature control system was setup to test the characteristic of thermoelectric module. The open circuit output voltage and matched load output power characteristics under the different hot and cold end temperature were obtained by experiment. Furthermore, the stability of the output under the constant temperature difference of the hot-cold end and the sensitivity of the output to the temperature difference were also experimental investigated. The experimental results show that there are the nearly linear relationships between the output (the voltage and the power) and the temperature difference of hot-cold end of the Bi-Te based thermoelectric module. The output voltage and power can preferably keep steady when temperature difference is constant. But the output voltage and power are sensitive to the fluctuation of the temperature difference. Through the experiments, the TEG design scheme was confirmed finally. At last, to conquer the shortage of the output voltage and power of TEG are sensitive to the fluctuation of the temperature difference, a float charge device was designed by using the Li battery to store the power. The results indicate that the shortage was conquered effectively.
