In recent years, with the rapid development of expressway, there is a great trend that the construction current of expressway changes from east to western area, from the plain to mountainous area. In these regions we will come up against lots of deep excavation and high filling and this style embankment is a problem we must solve in the construction of expressway due to the trouble it brings to us in building and operating. Settlement and stabilization are the two technical problems in high fill embankment. In high filled embankment expressway there exist differential settlement. The high differential settlement may cause road surface crack, bring the loss to our nation and affect life if the value large. So controlling and reducing the differential settlement is very important for construction of expressway in mountainous area.In combination with the construction for one expressway in Hunan province, the paper studied the filling and excavation surface settlement, its variation law in filled or boundary area and the re-boundance in excavation area. First, theory of stabilization of this style embankment is analyzed and main factors influencing on the stability of embankment are also summarized. The measured datums from local site are explored carefully. Second, using relevant software the construction process of semi-filled and semi-excavated embankment is simulated; on the base of analysis of calculated results, settlement rule is indicated in this thesis. Third, for different condition, different construction methods, different load mode, different ratio of the embankment slope and the different location of the slope angle are also studied. Through the simulation the variation law of filled and interface in process of construction could be concluded. At last, geo-textile is suggested to reduce different settlement and from the numerical results it can be concluded that geo-textile could obtain a well improved effect .
