On the shipboard, high temperature and line loss in board deteriorate the trunk cable. Moreover, more loss causes high temperature. If the medium temperature reaches a certain numerical value, it will makes insulator aging and adust. Thus, the insulator will be breakdown. Besides, when rubber cable is operating, because of the effect of oxygenolysis, the cable will become hard, crisp and form fissure. It makes the rubber cable out of work. To prevent the economic losses and personnel casualty, it's necessary to detect cable termly. In this paper, we discuss the general structure of cable and introduce existed methods about cable test and meaning. Also, we analyse the influencing factor of cable test and its equivalent circuit. We emphasis on the three main test methods: insulation resistance, leak current and dielectric loss. Using the methods, we can evaluate the cable insulation condition. Meanwhile, we discuss the nondestructive examination for cable and 0.1~1Hz test method for loss angle. We select several representative nautical rubber cable and 2 new cable to acquire cable parameter under laboratory condition, using insulation resistance, leak current and dielectric loss test method. Thus we can combine the result to evaluate the cable condition and estimate the residual life. Besides, we use other methods like tensile failure test, aging process test and so on to make sure the data is useful and the correctness of the test.By means of the test above, we give the general judge of the cable insulation condition and reach the purpose of the experimentation.
