The Virtual Reality (VR) Technology has been widely used in the teaching realm, whichbased on immersion, interaction, autonomy, and multi-sensory characteristics. The VRtechnology applied in "descriptive geometry and engineering graphics" course, can saveteaching resources and expand teaching space and time. By the VR technology, students canmake a deep comprehension of 3D objects to 2D or 3D graphics."Descriptive geometry and engineering graphics" is an engineering foundational course. The traditional experiment teaching of the course mainly make use of model room, surveyingroom, mapping room and exhibiting room to proceed teaching, not only a great deal ofmodels, parts, assemblies and measuring tools, should be prepared, but also occupy lots ofvalue credit hours, a great deal of money, labor, and time. The course is that faces to manyengineering subjects, it is hard to meet various teaching requirements. The thesis took "descriptive geometry and engineering graphics" teaching as a purpose.Practice teaching is recommended and preferred, VR experiments can largely aid practiceteaching. The EON technique has been applied in the practice teaching successfully, thefollowing works were realized.(1) The design and implementation of six knowledge points of 12 virtual experiments, including understanding three-dimensional solids, three Views, intersection, assemblage, parts' classification, and components' dismounting have been adopted. Campus LANresources deliver a possible and quick path for producing stand-alone version and networkversion. These two versions were used for network teaching and classroom teaching, respectively. Both classroom teaching and after class self-learning were met completely.(2) VR experiments could be realized and controlled easily through fully excavatingfunction of EON, such as the model parameters, dismounting parts' motion. It provided animportant reference for applying EON technology on teaching.(3) Some commonly-encountered problems about transferring models from different 3-Dmodeling software to virtual reality software were investigated and solved.(4) In the system, word files, images, videos, and animations were integrated to theexperimental process. Through parts classification, assembly-disassembly, principledemonstration and working conditions contrast, deepen the understanding of "descriptivegeometry and engineering graphics."(5) Besides this system, a bearing models' library, the cutters' changing system of CNC,and operating principle of drilling machine were made. The foundation on further developingthe virtual experiments for professional teaching was established. In the experiments, cultivating students' abilities of design, graphical ideation andimagination were taken into consideration sufficiently. In the progress of development of thesoftware, pay attention to foster students' thinking method of observing configuration. In thisdissertation, the EON technique was applied in "the descriptive geometry and engineering graphics" course teaching first time, practical effects were good enough. Further more, theteaching thinking was expanded, and teaching method was enriched. This VR experimentexplored a new approach for practice teaching. The range of application can be enhancedthrough adding more parts and devices for mechanical, mechanical-related, andnon-mechanical specialties. With this method, teaching space can be well enlarged.
