Since 1980s, the development of science and technology was faster than ever before. Especially after the appearance of VLSI, the widely use of electronic products had been changing our life a lot in all fields. Every aspects of our daily life are developing towards digitalization, intelligent and networking. As the unavoidable trend of modern life, more and more attention and study are paying to intelligent home network. The concept of intelligent home network was appeared in America and Europ in 1980s. Our country's industry of intelligent house sprung up in late 1990s. Along with our country's national economy and the science and technology level enhancement, especially in the computer, communication, network, control and the information technology, government and big corporitions all started to pay attention to the industry. Correlation standards are under establishing. In the technical aspect, the design of terminal controller, the selecting of communication channel, the option of communication protocols, the topological structure of home network and the interface of the intranet and extranet are all focuses being discussed at present.This thesis has just carried on researches, experiments and analysis to the above problems. An intelligent narrowband home network has been set up, which is of rational structure, with clear protocol and easy to be controlled. Correspondence medium and controller design method are selected through comparison. The emphases of this project are analyzing the plan of realizing the system and designing basic building blocks and the controller.SOPC technology was used to design central controller. The SOC technology is the inevitable trend of integrated circuit technological development. It adapted the request of integrated circuit-IC which will transform to integrated system-IS. Now there are two main methods to realize SOC, and design SOPC by using FPGA is the most popular one. So in my project, I use EP1C6Q240C8 , which is the product of Altera corporition, as the core of the central controller. The terminal controller is designed by 89c2051, which is simple and has a good quality-price ratio.This network takes the widely distributed power line as the medium of communication. And we analyzed the characteristic of our Powerline, based on the exsiting experiment results. The physical layer interface is constructed of SC1128, the SSC chip for PLC, and corresponding circuits with functions of amplifying, filtering and coupling. In order to strengthen the network's reliability, the UPB protocol was introduced into the project, which is product of American PCS Corporation.
