Submersible Progressing Cavity Pump (SPCP) technology has gradually been used in petroleum exploit, but there is a major technology bottleneck in SPCP's driving system. The rotational speed and torque of submergible motor isn't a nice match for SPCP's.The thesis studies the necessity and rationality of using the technology of variable frequency drive to resolve the bottleneck in SPCP's driving system, and describes the hardware developing process of sample of the variable frequency drive.In this study, the load characteristics of SPCP and submergible motor are analyzed. Through the comparison of different types of variable frequency drive, the design adapted to SPCP's driving system is confirmed. The main circuit of variable frequency drive for SPCP adopts a structure of AC-DC-AC Voltage Type. In the part of hardware development, the thesis describes configurations of the main circuit, control circuit and outside circuit in detail, and offers some formulas about key components. Some defects were pointed in SPCP's driving system, and the solutions were given.The experiments of load manifest that the test sample of variable frequency drive for SPCP has good driving capability.
