| Streambank protection consists of restoring and protecting banks of streams, lakes, estuaries, and excavated channels against scour and erosion by cement laid stone masonry, dry stone wall, precast concrete and so on. However, they have greatly destroyed the environment and water-land ecosystem. Though some biological streambanks have been studied and applied yet, they are still lack of ecosystem research and the effects validate.Based on the analysis of the utilization purpose of animals and the nature of interstitial spaces, the paper first conducts four experiments to determine the streambank protection functions of interstitial spaces as well as fish and habitat relations. The experiments conclude four parts; the interstitial spaces existed contrasted experiment, the interstitial space material contrasted experiment, interstitial space covered contrasted experiment, interstitial spaces color contrasted experiment. The two normal distributions mathematic expectation method is used to determine the significant difference. According to the experimental results, the paper has designed a new kind of streambank protection named interstitial spaces and inhabit streambank unit, which will recover the river habitat by providing the essential spaces for juvenility fish shelter, vegetation growth and insect rtidification; especially the filling of the streambank protection will form the food chain which can rehabitat and stabilize the ecosystem. Besides, the streambank protection can resisting the local hydrodynamic forces as well as maintain the structural integrity of the material.The paper then taking Dasha River as an example, evaluats the biological effects of the designed streambank protection by calculating the water velocity and weighted usable area (WUA) of the four different plans of the river based on River2D software. The recovering effects of the streambank protection in the four plans have been contrasted. The results show that the streambank protection will surely develop the WUA. At last, the paper has set up an embedded model to calculate the fish amount change trend in the four plans. It is showed that the streambank protection can increase the fish amount. The results of the two models show a consistent conclusion that plan 4 is the optional plan. |
