Dynamic compaction method is a kind of foundation treatment methods which is used widely both in our country and in the other countries, and especially is applicable to soft soil, collapsed soil, artificial fill and etc. Dynamic replacement with stone block was developed on the basis of Dynamic compaction, which is in the scope of composite foundation. By powerful tamping energy in Dynamic replacement, stone block, gravel, or cobble is punched into footing resulting in bigger-diameter piers and improving bearing capacity of foundation. The method is applied to soft footing mainly.Based on the experimental part of freeway foundation in a city, it is from theoretical and practical aspects which the paper carries out the work as followed by:1. Research purpose and method of Dynamic replacement with stone block in the paper. Improvement mechanism of Dynamic replacement with stone block is explained in the view of wave theory, and also analyzed in the view of Dynamic consolidation of soil. As the parts of composite foundation, piers and soil among piers have their individual roles. Properties of foundation capacity and settlement of Dynamic replacement are analyzed.2. Trough many kinds of test measure indoor and outdoor, such as Plane loading test, Triaxial compression test, Standard penetration test, Excess pore water pressure, it is to verify the practical effect of Dynamic replacement with stone furtherly.3. Based on the actual project, and elastic-plastic model Drucker-Prager, the finite element method code ABAQUS is applied to simulate the procession of Dynamic replacement with stone block, from which the displacement, stress and strain of the soil are obtained.Above all, due to many influential factors the research about Dynamic replacement with stone block has been limited so far and need to study further later. And in reality, practical and regional experience is vital to the application of Dynamic replacement with stone block. The paper is just a trial for Dynamic replacement with stone block both in theory and in practice, and therefore can be reference to construction and research.
