Due to their economic advantage and relatively inert state, the use of geosynthetics in highway applications is increasing. In these applications the geosynthetics must maintain its tensile strength properties after exposure to construction stresses and exposure to an in-soil environment over the anticipated design life. Because of their relatively short historical period in use, there are some uncertainties as to their durability. This paper discusses the durability (such as oxidative durability, hydrolysis) of geosynthetic products. For geosynthetics, the research findings indicate that the amount and type of antioxidant added determines the useful life'in civil works. Oxidative degradation is further dependent on type of fiber, manufacturing process, and oxygen concentration of the in-use environment. The paper also presents and explains the different durability of geosynthetics caused by their dimension difference. And long term durability values for geosynthetic materials are estimated through adopting kinetic law of reaction to data which are achieved by accelerated ageing reaction.
