Electric power is the backbone and economic lifeline of a country. With the development of the electric power market and the contact of region, electric power system is extensively distributed and faults are spreading to a large range, the local fault could be extended and transmitted quickly, which result in cascading failure and then the breakdown of electric power system. It is against such a background that the status quo of analysis and control in complex power grid are made a summary, based on the theory of fault chain in the security science and the FTA, according to the fault mechanism, establishing the theory of fault chain in electric power system.With the lucubrate research of fault mechanism, according to the domino theory and ICAO, to bring forward the idea of electric power system fault chain.With the characters of fault chain in electric power system and it's requires for actualize as the guide, bringing forward the questions of realization of the fault chain, which is consisted of the evaluation of fault chain taches, modeling the fault chain and analysis and control of fault chain.The electric power system faults affection factors are various and complex, such as equipment, human, environment and administration, which affect each other, but there are short of affective evaluation methods. According to the characters of fault affection factor in electric power system, to sort the fault chain taches, summarizing the measuring method, such as cloud model, AHP etc. Beside the devices, human factor, environment and management are short of scientific and effective measuring method, according to the SSE-CMM theory, integrating the affections of devices, environment and management to human factor, to establish the model of human risk analysis and offer the risk measuring guide line.With the comparing of the other measuring methods, FTA can be able to describe the fault mechanism of electric power system vividly, at the same time, it's easy to be carried out by the mean of Computer. Describe the process of modeling and analysis in detail by FTA. As a result of the uncertainty of fault factors, using the risk theory to analyze the fault chain, offering the instances of typical grids in electric power system. At last , to provide the integrated instances for fault chain analysis in electric power system.
