Recently, CAD/CAM system develops rapidly, and has shown its more and more powerful engineering capability. Along with the quick development of China's economy, there are growing demands of yachts. So, the yacht industry of China is facing a good opportunity. However, the time of design and constructing advanced yacht is not long, we are still lack of experience, and there are quite few of professional designer and software. All this causes the low efficiency in yacht industry. Forasmuch, it's something significative to design a kind of software which aim at the 3D CAD of the Glass Reinforced Plastic (GRP) yacht. After a simple introduction of CAD/CAM, the development status and direction of CAD in the naval architecture is discussed. Then the theory of ship aesthetics and ship formative design is discussed. Coming next is the introduction of the design tools used in this development, such as Visual C++, Pro/E and Pro/Toolkit.This design platform is based on lots of research on ship aesthetics theory and ship formative theory. Firstly, using Pro/E to construct a model, which is driven by several parameters. Secondly, programming, using Pro/Toolkit program to control the model which have been constructed, and to create the model wanted. In the part of introducing the steps concretely, the procedure of modeling and programming is stated in detail. In the part of introducing the usage of the system, the required hardware and software environment and cautions of usage is described. The design system in this research is a standalone program, and has a simple interface. It can call Pro/E to construct and display the 3D model. It's hoped that it can take effect in design and bid, and can be used for reference.
