The reinforced concrete frame structures and frame-shear wall structure are widely used structure forms. With the development of the construction industry and with the different requirement of architectural features, there are more and more RC frame structures with few shear walls. But Code of Seismic Design of Buildings does not specify any exact seismic deformation limit for these structures. When designing, engineers want to know how much deformation is acceptable for such structures.Based on broadly documents reading at home and abroad, this dissertation summaries shear wall stiffness degradation law under lateral loading after analyzing related shear wall test data. On the basis of the experimental study, we adopted the large-scale finite element software ANSYS to simulate shear wall and nonlinear finite element analysis is completed. The calculated results are compared with the experimental skeleton curve and the calculated and measured results are shown to be in good agreement. On the basis of these, stiffness degradation law of shear wall is summarized. This paper suggests a new classification method for frame structure with few shear walls after referring several cases, proposes that it can be handled as frame structure with few shear walls when frame resist no less than 70% seismic load moment on the building. This paper proposes that stiffness degradation of few shear walls should be permitted for this structure under small earthquake. According to calculated and measured results, this paper propose limits for inter-story displacement control of frame structure with few shear walls and has carried on beneficial exploration to this question.
