Space technology, information technology and the development of computer technology promotes the advancement of remote sensing technology. People increasingly hope to achieve a purpose, which is to process the RS image automatically. Because of the complexity of remote sensing imaging features and the complexity of the landscape itself, however, remote sensing images automatic extraction technology is far from being achieved. Even so, the use of remote sensing technology is still an important means to access space information. Remote sensing information has an amount of information. Remote sensing technology can access the space information fast and timely. Besides, its economic cost is very reasonable. So the remote sensing technology in the national economy activities will play an increasingly important role. Road network is very important information. It concentrates on the main points in image interpretation. Along with the accelerated process of urbanization, and the rapid road building, road network planning and investigation would be very urgent. The use of remote sensing information on the road extraction is a convenient and fast way. From the applications of remote sensing information science and geographic information systems (GIS), the remote sensing images can be extracted road information to update GIS data and provide favorable conditions for GIS application.Mathematical morphology was born in 1964. Scientists from France G. Matheron and their students J. Serra co-founded it. Mathematical morphology is the establishment of a strict mathematical theory on the basis of disciplines. Itsbasic ideas and methods of image processing theory and technology have hada significant impact. Many very successful theory model and visual inspectionsystems used Mathematical morphology as a theoretical component. In fact, mathematical morphology has been a new type of image processing methods andtheories. Morphological image processing has become a major research field.Using mathematical morphology methods to extract the road network of RS images will no doubt become a hot research topic in recent years. As CUI Yi in the "Image Processing and Analysis-methods and applications of mathematical morphology," said, "Mathematical morphology is a rising image analysis disci plines. Its basic theories and methods in the visual detection, robot vision, me dical image analysis, and other areas have made a very successful application."This paper will use mathematical morphology methods to extract road info rmation of the high-resolution remote sensing images. Firstly, obtaining gray i mage from color image, and then preprocess the gray image (e.g., contrast enh ancement, histogram equalization, filtering operations, etc.). Secondly, using gra y morphology segmentation, obtain the gray image. On this basis, Comprehensi ve use of the morphological method will extract road network.
