Wind-load is one of the main horizontal loads of low-rise buildings. There are many factors affecting the wind-load such as meteorological condition, terrain landform, environment, architectural composition, model, building scale which result in wind-pressure distribution on low-rise buildings to be complicated and difficult to obtain single practical formula. Therefore it is inevitable trend of using the computer and the numerical calculus technology to make database of the wind-load computational methods and accordingly develop the software of Database-assisted design for wind load on low-rise buildings. On the basis of the mean of domestic and foreign Building Codes and wind-tunnel test data and numerical simulation results, the wind-induced pressure distributions and the shape factors on low-rise buildings of flat roof and lean-to roof are analyzed. As supplement, the low-rise buildings of lean-to roof with different roof pitches and different height-width ratios in different wind directions are analyzed with numerical simulation techniques. Through parametric analysis and comparison practical formula for determination of the shape factors on the building roof are established, and they are used in the database of the software as a Reference computational method.Secondly, the wind-induced pressure distributions of the gable roof and the hip roof are summarized, and the Similarities and differences of domestic and foreign Building Codes in this part is analyzed. Several main possible factors that affect the wind-pressure distribution of the building, including the building geometry, roof slope, parapet and dominant openings on the wall and roof, roof protrusion have been discussed and summarized. The primary behaviors of the surface mean pressure, local fluctuating pressure with the above factors are presented. Then applying them to the database of the wind-resistant software.the wind-induced pressure distributions of the roof protrusions with different shapes are obvious different from the ordinary house. First the method of Building Codes is summarized, then numerical simulation techniques are employed to study the wind-induced pressure distributions of the roof protrusions with different shapes. The study emphases are put on the effects of the position of protrusions, the height and area of protrusions, the shapes of the protrusions, parapet, and several especial forms of the protrusions. Through parametric analysis and comparison practical formula for determination of the shape factors on the building roof are established. Finally, the development of the Database-assisted design for wind load software and the software of Database-assisted design for wind load on low-rise buildings which is designed by author is presentated. Then the Computation theory of wind load and the database are summarized and some examples is given for the application.
