The dangerous rock is a rare kind of geologic hazard. As the rapid development of the social economy, human living space has been extended to the mountain area. Especially, with the extension of city and the building of highway in mountain area, the disaster of dangerous rock occurred more and more frequently during the past few years, and threatened the safety of the local people's life and properties. Therefore, it is an urgent need to enhance the research on dangerous rock. Recently, recognition of dangerous rock hazard has been focused on and plenty of research gained some achievements. Based on these research results, this paper takes the sample for the dangerous rock along the Shuima Highway to study the hazard evaluation and prevention measures, which combines with the project"highway synthesis safety operation technology in mountain area"by Chongqing communications research & design institute. The main conclusions were represented as follows:(1) The dangerous rock definition was studied. Meanwhile, the formation condition, influencing factors related were summarized.(2) The geological condition and the features of dangerous rock along the Shuima Highway were analyzed. Meanwhile, characteristics of dangerous rock in the sample region were elucidated.(3) Based on the characteristics of geologic hazard evaluation, both the hazard evaluation system and index system had been built.(4) We used two kinds of mathematical models, fuzzy synthesis assessment method and AHP method, to evaluate dangerous rocks, and got perfect achievement.(5) Based on the basic theory of hazard evaluation related to dangerous rock, we evaluated the risk of dangerous rocks along Shuima Highway.(6) According to risk grades, the risk of dangerous rock was divided into four degrees: I,II,III, IV, descendingly. The grading scheme was related to the choice of prevention countermeasures.(7) This paper illuminated details about active methods and passive methods in dangerous rocks prevention. Based on the principles of dangerous rocks prevention, we worked on the strategies for the dangerous rock prevention along Shuima Highway. These results play a significant role as a guider in hazard evaluation as well as dangerous rocks prevention.
