With the increase of wind power installed capacity and single unit capacity, it has become an important subject to build the right model for wind farm. In this paper, we improve the conventional coherency method and present a coherency method based on SVM (support vector machine) by analyzing the operation data of certain wind farm. The operation data of wind turbines are taken as stylebooks and the wind turbines within the wind farm are classified by support vector machine's classifier, and the uniqueness of the coherent cluster is proved. At last we build a model of a small wind farm taking the advantage of Matlab/Simulink tool box and build its equivalent model by the method presented in this paper. The results show that the proved coherency method can meet the precision requirements of the wind farm dynamic simulation.
