The turbo-charging and inter-cooling technology is one of the important methods to raising power performance and fuel economy, decreasing the thermal load and exhaust emissions, and it has been more and more used in the new engine exploitation. Intercooler is the key part of the charge-air cooling. So, many famous manufacturers and research institutes expect to develop new intercooler production. The heat-pipe as a very efficient heat transfer component is more and more used in heat design projects. In chapter 2, one intercooler is designed based on the requirement of high efficiency of inter-cooling heat-exchanger with heat-pipe. The new energy efficiency method is used to analyze this intercooler. In chapter 3, the model of the heat-pipe intercooler is built with Simulink and the simulation results are got. In chapter 4, the model of one intercooled diesel engine is built with AMESim, and the simulation results are analyzed. Then, the comparison between the two types intercooler is made in size, weight and price. In chapter 5, the limitaiont of the heat-pipe is checked and a computer program to design the heat-pipe intercooler is written with VB, which makes the design of intercooler much more easy. The aim of this work is to study the foreground of the application of heat-pipe technology in diesel engine and in internal combustion engine industry.
