Wind turbine can be classified into two groups: horizontal axis wind turbine and vertical axis wind turbine. The horizontal axis wind turbine has been paid more attention. The theory and technology has been summarized. However, vertical-axis wind turbine is the trend in future for its advantage in aero-dynamic performance. Research in this field in China is still at its' fledgling stage.The huge vertical-axis wind turbine belongs to towery mast in structure. It is of some characteristics of rotor in working condition. And it is classified to be a complex structure system because of towery mast and dynamical rotor working at the same time. Usually wind load is its main load. This paper introduces some basic theory about wind response, and studies structural response under the wind load.The basic theory about wind response includes the basic characteristics of natural wind, the modeling theory and method for simulating pulsating wind load as well as the calculating method for wind response. It is difficult to calculate guy mast's frequency and wind response for its obviously nonlinear characteristics. This paper introduced some data about structural dynamic behavior and wind response, such as the timehistory curves about displacement, velocity, and internal force. From the results, we note that the horizontal displacement of mast is very little at the static condition, but is much larger under the wind load condition. What's more, the displacement, velocity and acceleration are at their maximum at the connection part of cable and mast in which it is usually the weak part of the whole structure. |
