In the area of urban rail transit design, urban rail transit tractioncalculation can provide guidance on optimal design of line plane section and linelongitudinal section by the Line Design major, selection of vehicle technical parametersby the Vehicle major, design of block section by the Sign major, determination of themain substation scale and substation number and distribution by the Traction PowerSupply major, the ventilation planning of underground station and subway tunnel by theEnvironmental Control major, and etc. Therefore, it is necessary to carry out urban railtransit traction calculation, provide feedback to the planning, design, and operation, andthus improve the efficiency of urban rail transit system.Based on the basic principles of railway traction calculation, this paper studied urbanrail transit traction calculation principle including by train tractive force, resistance, braking force, tractive mode, coasting mode, braking mode, running equation, operatingstrategy and traction energy consumption calculations. This paper used C# programming language and Microsoft Visual Studio 2005 todevelop Urban Rail Transit Traction Calculation System. We have accomplished, including needs analysis, functional design, to achieve module, UI design, databasedesign and debugging and a series of work. After the development of Urban Rail Transit Traction Calculation System, we used thissystem to do example calculations for different slope on the design of line longitudinalsection and different proportions of Motor Car on the design of marshalling.Urban Rail Transit Traction Calculation System can be used as a design and researchtool, which will have a wide range of applications. Using optimal operating strategy, wecan find a most energy-saving and optimal longitudinal section design plan, if given thetrain parameters, maximum operational speed, and the station spacing. We can furtheruse the Urban Rail Transit Traction Calculation System to determine the specificoptimal longitudinal section.
