In this thesis the author tries to unfold and present the ideas and thoughts of the architect Toyo Ito from the perspective of history and society. The special efforts have been made to the study of"the two transformations"on his career. The main structure of the thesis is divided into three main parts, which are organized around the factor of'the transformation'.In the first part, the author suggests that the theory of'Architecture of Wind'which presented by the'Silver Hut', Ito'private house in Tokyo .By analyzing the process from self-expression to self-reflection in the architect's early career life and of breaking through the concept of modern architecture, the building will became to open to the nature as far as possible.In the second part , the transformation of the'Sendai Mediatheque'becomes the point . At that time ,the pursuit of Ito was between the lightness and the fluidity. He tried to find the way of assimilation among the nature, the body and the environment. His interests transferred to how to express the things from the concept of society. After the'Sendai Mediatheque'he began to consider about the limitation of the temporary expression and became to seek the permanence of the building. He tried to find the more possibilities in the consistency of epidermal and structural. This is another challenge and excess to the modernism and the architect himself.In the last part, the author compares the similarities and differences of related transformation from the changes of times, the advance of thinking and the update of strategies. It is try to reflect the origin and ties behind the characteristics . In this thesis, the author wants to find out that how Toyo Ito deal with the relations between the natural environment and urban society, and what 's the point of view between the people and the buildings. The purpose is to eliminate of the misunderstanding of the architect and try to explore the practical significance for the the contemporary architecture development in the process from thinking about the transformation.
